The Greek-Orthodox monastery of karantel,just in the steep slope of the mountain regarded by tradition as the Hill of the Temptation of Jesus.In the early centuries pious hermits lived their solitary lives in nearby caves, and gathering for communal prayer formed a laura, to become later monastery.

The Arabic word Karantel or Quruntul marks the forty days Jusus fasted in this place in order to withstand satan's temptation. Satan offered Jesus the kingdoms of the world if Jesus worshipped him.

Only fit people can reach there from the bottom of the valley.
